Most of the questions we get asked about dogs are related to food and feeding. IMPORTANT: Do not leave food down for a dog - EVER. It is not natural behaviour. Dog's digestive systems are designed to have a reasonably large meal and then digest that meal. They are not grazing animals. Leaving food down causes anxiety, behaviour problems, fussyness, weight problems, dominance and stress. All depending on the animal. An adult dog should have 1 or 2 meals a day consistently. Stick to the same routine and if possible the same meal-times. Ideally stick to the same walkies times as well. BARF diets (Bones and raw foods) are good for most dogs but are time consuming and can be expensive. The diets we most commonly recommend are Burns, James Wellbeloved and Salters. |
